What the classes are

Most of the schedule is yoga, and vinyasa is the style that comes up most often, alongside flow classes that move at a steady pace. Power Core Yoga Flow, Power Vinyasa Flow and Power Yoga classes bring more strength into the practice. Deep Stretch, Stretch + Sutra and Mobility and stretch classes give the body time to open.

For a calmer practice, Gentle Yoga, Hatha + Stretch and Candlelight Restorative Yin are on the schedule. Prenatal, Postpartum & Gentle Movement classes support people at particular stages of life. Sound baths and gong and bowl sessions appear now and then as well.

How the week runs

Morning classes are the most common, starting from 8am, and the busiest start times are 9:15am and 10am. Evenings are also well covered, with classes starting at 5:30pm and 7pm. Midday has very few classes, so the rhythm of the studio is mostly early and after work.

Sunday, Thursday and Monday are the busiest days. Most sessions last 60 minutes, while the longer ones run 75 minutes. Classes are taught in English, and the studio does not run a pass system, so each class is booked on its own.

Upstairs Yoga: questions and answers

Can I practice in the morning here?

Yes. Upstairs Yoga runs classes from 8am to 7pm, and the most common start times are 9:15am, 10am, 5:30pm and 7pm. Morning classes make up more than half of the schedule, so the studio suits people who like to practice before the day begins.

What kinds of yoga are taught at Upstairs Yoga?

Most of the classes are yoga, and the styles that come up most often are vinyasa and flow. Gentle, restorative and yin classes are also part of the schedule, as are a few prenatal and postpartum classes, which give the room a varied mix.

Are there classes for people who want a slower practice?

Yes, there are gentler options. Gentle Yoga, Slow Flow, Hatha + Stretch and Candlelight Restorative Yin are all listed as calmer classes, and each lasts about an hour or a little more. They are a good place to begin if you prefer a slower pace.

Who leads the classes, and how long are they?

Upstairs Yoga is in Forest Grove, at 2038 Pacific Avenue in Suite A. The classes are led by about ten facilitators, and Azy Pournaderi, Emily Fasnacht and Sara C are among those who teach the most classes. Most sessions run about 60 minutes, with some at 75.

Are there sound classes?

Some of the studio's classes are built around sound. Sound baths and gong and bowl sessions are on the schedule, offered by a few facilitators including NW Vibrational Sound Therapy Michelle and Brad. They are a small part of the week, so they are easy to find among the more usual yoga classes.
